Pole position for the Malaysian Grand Prix was switched to the right hand side of the track following a pre-event request from drivers, AUTOSPORT has learned. Lotus technical chief Mike Gascoyne said the Malaysian Grand Prix marked the first time that the squad could really start racing its rivals, after an encouraging run to 15th for Heikki Kovalainen. Raikkonen completes NASCAR test
Kimi Raikkonen successfully completed a two-day NASCAR Truck test on Monday and Tuesday at the half-mile Gresham Motorsports Park oval. The former Formula 1 world champion ran Monday and Tuesday on his maiden outing on an oval at the wheel of a black Toyota Tundra for series' leading outfit Kyle Busch Motorsports, for whom he is set to race this year on a limited schedule. The test was held behind closed doors, and neither media nor fans were allowed access to the facility on the team's request.

Lancer kits homologated by FIA
Kits for the latest incarnation of Mitsubishi Lancer rally car has been homologated by the FIA and is reckoned to be as much as half a second per kilometer faster than the Group N car it supersedes. The R4 version of the Lancer has been developed on behalf of Mitsubishi by British firm MML Sports Ltd - the Rugby-based company which has its roots in the hugely successful squad which collected five world titles between 1996 and 1999. The official kit to convert a Lancer into an R4 is expected to be available by the middle of this month, with the car likely to make its international debut on next month's Rally d'Italia.

Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing will run a second car in this year's Indianapolis 500 for Bertrand Baguette. Bobby Rahal's squad had already announced that it would field Jay Howard in collaboration with Sam Schmidt Motorsports, and has now added an entry in the #30 for Baguette. Stoner pips Pedrosa in first practice
Casey Stoner narrowly beat Honda team-mate Dani Pedrosa to the fastest time in an intriguing first practice session at Jerez. Though Stoner had assumed his habitual position at the top of the times early on, he was beaten first by Jorge Lorenzo (Yamaha) before getting embroiled in a long battle with Pedrosa that saw them swap first place several times. By the end of the 45 minutes, Stoner had got down to a 1m39.551s to beat Pedrosa by just 0.028 seconds, as their pace took them half a second clear of the rest.

Chaves tops Silverstone testing
Gabby Chaves posted the quickest time of the day in GP3 testing at the Silverstone circuit on Tuesday. The Addax team driver's 1m51.449s, set in the afternoon session, was enough to put him on top of the times, over a tenth of a second ahead of Nico Muller in the Jenzer Motorsport car. In what was the second of three pre-season tests for GP3, Lotus ART's Valtteri Bottas finished as third quickest with the fastest time of the morning session.
